One maze of textile
The tulip jacket was design restricted to being all vegan. thus only cottons or linens and synthetics could be employed. structurally layers of bridal cotton interlinings instead of horsehair canvas.
This was a very complex pattern arrangement, a layered 3d pattern of form and function. as much of the shaping is used graphically as possible; the waist dart up the front bolts out and up again to become the bust dart to then create the shaping for the stove pipe neck.
The sequence of sewing was almost as complex as working out the pattern.
The lining hangs free over the waist and the pleats are held up by the edge binding that continues off the fabric and then is caught in the next pleats' binding. Antique magnets are used up the front for subtle closure.
The garment is designed on the side and is largely sectional. The back section travels under and through the side to become the facing of the front, and the front is secured to the body by the band over the back. Pleat edges then become the seams of the back darts, shoulder darts and then form the stove shaping of the neck.
