LAIR

Objects For Emotional Preparation

An Exploration of Awe, Ritual and Materiality.

LAIR is an experiential exhibition from Sruli Recht, to be shown at SWCAC museum in Shenzhen opening December 2025. Developed over the last 15 years as an exploration of alternate material taxonomies, mapping a world where we design material and objects as the Earth makes itself – hacking elemental reaction, geological processes, and stochastic growth.

LAIR features 68 sculptures distributed across 11 installations, employing electric mineral accretion, lava casting, lightning formed glass, bee-skin fur, instruments for olfactive amplification, straddling the line between ritualized objects and art. Each work serves as both behavioral prosthetics and ceremonial artifacts.

At the center of LAIR lies the choreography of emotional priming and uncertainty – inviting the audience to navigate a sequence of spatial and sensory thresholds, designed to evoke awe, discomfort and catharses – drawing participants into states of heightened psychological presence.

This calibrated arc unfolds as a scored and olfactive composition in a ritual pathway, moving through compression and release, darkness and reflection, absurdity and transcendence.
